Italy, Scott #385 (Sassone #424), used (o), 1937, Celebrating the two-thousandth Bimillenary of the Birth of Italian Emperor Augustus Caesar (formally: Octavianus), on the occasion of an Exhibit opened by Il Duce Benito Mussolini, stamp shows a Sacrifical Altar of the Roman Empire, and the words: ‘Aram pacis Avgvstae Senatvs pro Reditv meo Consacrandam Sensvum - Avg’ ("The Senate of Augustus has decided to sacrifice the Dove of Peace to Assure my Return" - Augustus ), (1.75+1) lira, perforated: 14¼x14, photogravure printed, watermarked: crown (Scott watermark #140, Sassone filigrana: corona), plum, Scott 2019 catalog value: $255.00. Very slightly off-centered, half circular, black-inked, double-rimmed,, socked-on-the-nose cancellation over the bottom quarter of the stamp with largely complete mailing details {Trieste, November 12th, 1937}, with all largely clear of the central image, sound back with Cararro backsign, good perforations; stamp comes with a 2 April 2024 review and certification by Diego Carraro, of Milan, Italy, which is included and shown; centering, image clear cancel, mailing details cancel, and reputable certification warrants a selling price premium.
